Also on 16th October Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was born in Dublin, Ireland. Best known for his comedies including; The Importance of Being Earnest, and his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray.

By the early 20th century, Chelsea had become the artistic centre of London. In this tour, Dr Claudia Tobin will tell you about a little-known but important aspect of the area’s artistic legacy: the ‘Little Theatres of Chelsea. Leading up to and during the First World War, artists and writers moved to the area and a culture of experimental performance developed in makeshift theatres and studios.
