The working class movement library with a free event called Radical Sounds on 31 August at 7.00pm

Liverpool digital music festival 29 to 31 August. After their successful inaugural ‘lockdown’ event in May this year, Liverpool Digital Music Festival are delighted to announce their first free live streamed music festival from venues across the city. The festival is a celebration of Liverpool’s music scene, bringing artists together for a unified good cause, bringing a fresh perspective to live music during the current Covid crisis.

CREATIVE PROJECTS WITH COLLECTIVE ENCOUNTERS:

FEATURING

This is an arts and heritage project celebrating women's activism and community organising in Merseyside. We're looking to interview women who have been involved in any sort of campaigning for positive change, supporting their communities, especially at a more grassroots level to gather stories that don't often get heard.!

And

Radical Makers - this is a year-long part-time training for adults aged 25+ who have some experience of drama and would be interested in exploring more about community theatre. Over 25? Based in Merseyside? Interested in making drama with people? Not able to get on a formal drama or arts course? Want to make a career in community theatre? Want to make a difference in your own community? Have around 8 hours a week free? Then join the Radical Makers Participatory Theatre Training programme.

The Radical Makers is a year-long free part time emerging artist training course starting in September this year. The course is COVID secure and involves a blend of learning in your own time and online, to suit each individual participant. Full support to get online is included in the course, as is the necessary technology and internet access for those who don’t already have it. All students receive one to one mentoring and career guidance, and nationally recognised qualifications.

THE SECOND EXCITING PROJECT IS CALLED - 'ITS ABOUT TIME'

We are currently seeking 40 people across Merseyside with a passion for media and the arts who are not currently in paid employment to sign up to our new project It’s About Time. Closing date extended to Friday 28 August.

Successful applicants will be trained online by the BBC to produce a podcast relating to mental health and wellbeing, with a focus on the idea that participants can Create For Wellbeing.

The overall aim is to draw out participants’ stories and experiences that will inspire listeners and provide insight into lived experience of mental health issues and/or personal approaches to achieving and maintaining wellbeing. Ideally, those taking part should be seeking to gain employment in the media, arts and culture field

It’s About Time, which will run until the end of March 2021, is funded by the European Social Fund Liverpool programme. The project is facilitated by Our Time time bank (Richmond Fellowship) in partnership with BBC Radio Merseyside, Voluntary Arts England and Timebanking UK.

Participant eligibility criteria:

o A passion for media, culture and the arts

o Aged 50+ (though we have a little flexibility with this – more details on request)

o A commitment to completing eight hours of online media training, eight hours of non-guided learning and producing a podcast focused on mental health and wellbeing

o Currently not in paid employment

o Resident within the Liverpool City Region

o Have the legal right to live and work in the U.K. for the duration of the project

It’s About Time will support each participant member to complete:

o 8 hours of specialist online training delivered by BBC Radio Merseyside in partnership with Voluntary Arts England (Up For Arts programme www.voluntaryarts.org/up-for-arts), including:

¨ An introduction to BBC Radio Merseyside with virtual tour

¨ How to plan and produce a podcast as part of a team of fellow project members (online)

¨ Digital storytelling techniques and methods

¨ How to conduct interviews and book guests

¨ Methods to develop of a social media strategy to promote a podcast

o 8 hours of non-guided learning (studies, timebanking activities)

¨ Visits to cultural sites, arts, dance performances and timebanking activities (co-ordinated by Our Time, in person - Covid-19 permitting) (reasonable expenses met by Timebanking UK).

All trainee-produced radio content will be promoted on BBC Radio Merseyside and members may be invited to give an interview for a radio show as part of this.

Participation will include signing up to Our Time time bank for the duration of the project and beyond March 2021, should they wish to remain a member. The DWP has confirmed that time bank membership as part of TBUK will not affect receipt of benefits (more details on request).
