Hi there strummers,
I hope you are all still strumming away and enjoying the new songs as well as some of the oldies but goldies. Remember that you are welcome to come and join us in our meetings on zoom, although it’s perfectly ok to pick up on what we have been rehearsing at home.
Well this week we had a rousing version of ‘Leaving of Liverpool’ led by Richard and I think we all agreed that it’s a great song to perform as a group, as well as having a particularly sentimental value to many of us as scousers (including ‘adopted’ scousers) in the group. Many of us shared fond memories of this song and probably its most famous singers ‘The Spinners’.
Stevie shared with us that he had been practising ‘Ferry Cross the Mersey’ and played us a beautiful version of the song on his uke. We all agreed this would be a great song to work on together.
Richard also showed us how to play ‘Love Cats’ by The Cure, a song which has recently been covered by The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain on YouTube. We all found it a challenge and so will give it a go at home for next week.
As well as this we discussed current delays to recording of ‘Lockdown Blues’ and the photos and backdrop images that have been shared by some members of the group. They will all make the video look great so please feel free to share your contributions with me and I will pass them on.
I have attached the chord sheets for next week’s songs so feel free to practice them at home or even join us in the session on Tuesday.
Bye for now.
Strum safe,
Paddy
