A Trip Down Memory Lane with Ian Smith

Hi everyone and welcome to my art exhibition which will be in three parts. I hope you'll enjoy looking at these works of art from over the years. I've picked certain pieces as there would be far too many to include!

Ribble Head Steam.

This was only the second canvas I did so very much a learning curve. For this piece I used acrylic paints and I must say I was quite happy with the perspective. This canvas was done back in 2006.

Once Upon A Time.

I feel my creativity with this one went a bit wild! I seemed to just throw paint at it and I used pieces of damp cloth to move the paint around the canvas. The background was interesting as I've never had any intentions of doing a painting of a Disney castle. This piece was done in 2008 and is now on a permanent exhibition at Alder Hey.

 Red Arrows.

There was no real plan with this one as I remember I just got a bit of a sky going on the canvas and I suddenly had the inspiration to add the Red Arrows. It was never a canvas I felt totally happy with over the years. I changed the sky to try and improve the piece but I feel it didn't quite work out....though after a spell of not looking at it and seeing it again I actually thought it's not too bad. This piece was done with acrylics and I think it was model paints as well. I started this canvas in 2007 though the changes were more recent.

 Painting stages during lockdown.

I did two painting stages, my first was Once Upon then Waterfall. This work compromised of teaching stages to my art so others could see and hopefully learn something new. This kept me occupied during lockdown, I didn't quite know how to go about it but once in my stride they were very enjoyable to do.

 Waterfall.

The second Waterfall canvas I did during the lockdown was done over the Easter period. This was a very chilled canvas to do and was done as teaching stages as well. This was achieved by using acrylic paints and was done in 2020.

I hope you have all enjoyed this first five paintings of my art exhibition going down memory lane.

See you next week.

Best wishes

Ian
