Chocolate Cosies – The Dutch Barn Fundraiser

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.

We really do have some simply marvellous people who bring their own kind of magic to the Dutch Barn, Garston.

This Spring is no exception, as attendees of the Dutch Barn may have noticed a basket of woolly wonders situated by the front door.

These little critters – ranging from the seasonal chicks and bunnies to unexpected octopuses and even dinosaurs – are Chocolate Cosies, a fundraiser which sees our lovely volunteer Sheila crocheting her way through a collection of animals to raise funds for the Dutch Barn.

Here Sheila answers all the important questions. Like, what is a Chocolate Cosy? And, more importantly, how do we get our paws on one?

Sheila says:

Chocolate Cosies come in three different sizes – they are fun crocheted characters which fit over chocolate oranges, little chocolate eggs as well as small single chocolates.

When I was involved in the Journey Through Art sessions many people mentioned how they would like to learn to knit and crochet. I looked online for small manageable projects and discovered the Sara Scales Amigurumi Chocolate Cosies book. You can purchase the book here.

The patterns are mostly animals, but it does also feature cupcakes clowns and many more imaginative ideas.

The cosies are crocheted in DK wool in a basic crochet stitch., using small amounts of wool. I enjoy making the octopus the best – although it takes about two hours to make!

I decided as I haven't been able to go out much to make some Chocolate Cosies for Easter. I wanted the money to be donated to Dutch Farm. Making and giving to others really helps my mental health, so I see it as a two-way project!

Dutch Barn is my haven. I get the joy of a green open space with trees and flowers. I can hear the birds singing. Then there's the opportunity to develop coping skills through all the activities and courses. The relaxation is a must for me. The support and understanding from the well-trained staff make me feel safe.

At the moment the cosies will be sold for £2 at Dutch barn. I will continue to top them up as I make more. Sheila.

Help Sheila achieve her goal fund of £100!

The Chocolate Cosies will be at the Dutch Barn for a limited time only – and once they are gone, they are gone! So be quick!
