Our resident artist Ian Smith has been on the right track with his next train themed art piece. Here he talks about his next art vision.

Time for a catch up!
Well, it must be over two years now since I last did any art! Or art for upbeatliverpool.com. I think after doing the Mona railway canvas it was time for a break. I've had bursts of inspiration but unfortunately this amounted to nothing, so it was nice to finally come across this beautiful image of a train crossing a railway bridge, silhouetted by the sun. It really set the scene to encourage me to paint again. I must admit things haven't been good this year with my mental health, or physical but getting back into the art again I feel is most welcoming. So, I hope you'll enjoy the stages ahead as I paint.

Putting paint onto canvas.
Firstly, I added a coat of acrylic yellow overall onto the canvas to provide the base. Then the worrying bit, adding the sketch of the train which seemed to go OK... so that is a relief! Then I painted the train in black acrylic and the bridge for the silhouette, then moved on to the shadows on the river also I added blue acrylic to the sky.

I feel, so far, I'm happy enough with the perspective there is room for improvement, but the canvas is going the right way.
See you soon for stage two.
Ian
